Advice from our stylists

How do I stop my hair colour fading?

Start with the wash. Use lukewarm water rather than hot, because hot water opens the cuticle and lets pigment escape faster, especially in the first few weeks after a colour or toner. Choose a sulfate-free shampoo: Bain Chroma Respect and Bain Riche Chroma Respect both are. Leave your conditioner on for the full two to three minutes, as porous coloured hair needs that time to absorb, then finish with a quick cool rinse. Add Masque Chroma Filler once a week, and use Serum Chroma Thermique before heat or sun.

What is an acid gloss, and do I need one?

Soin Acide Chroma Gloss is a rinse-off gloss treatment you use at home after shampooing. It seals the hair surface to cut porosity, so colour reflects more light and lasts longer. Apply it to towel-dried mid-lengths and ends, one dose for fine hair or two for thick or long hair, and massage for one to two minutes until the liquid turns into a white cream, then rinse. We suggest it as a shine top-up between colour appointments, in the week before an event, or whenever colour starts looking flat.

Do I need a heat protectant on coloured hair if I air dry?

It is still worth it here. Serum Chroma Thermique protects against heat up to 230°C, and it also helps shield hair and colour from UV, humidity and oxidative stress. Queensland sun fades colour fast, so apply two to four pumps to damp hair before the beach or pool, even on days you let your hair dry naturally. For other options, see our heat protection guide.

Is this the right routine for blonde hair?

Chroma Absolu suits hair that has been coloured, lightened or toned, and it is a good fit when fading is the main problem. If you are blonde and fighting yellow or orange tones, you need a purple product as well, so start with our blonde hair guide. To see the full colour range, visit Chroma Absolu.
