By Amelia Aitkin-Deane · October 30, 2026

Kérastase hair oils side by side: Elixir Ultime, Gloss Absolu Glaze Drops, Première Huile Gloss and Blond Absolu Cicagloss

Quick answer: Elixir Ultime L'Huile Originale ($88.50 for 75ml) is the best all-rounder because it suits all hair types. Choose Gloss Absolu Glaze Drops ($60) for long, frizz-prone or finer hair, Première Huile Gloss ($60) for damaged hair with split ends, and Blond Absolu Cicagloss ($60 for the refill) for lightened hair.

Updated 30 October 2026 by the stylists at Next International, a Kérastase salon in Oxenford and Upper Coomera on the Gold Coast since 1992.

The four Kérastase hair oils compared

Oil Best for Main benefit Our price Per ml
Elixir Ultime All hair types Nourishes, adds shine, controls frizz $88.50 for 75ml $1.18
Glaze Drops Long, frizz-prone hair, finer hair High-gloss finish, no oily residue $60 for 45ml $1.33
Huile Gloss Damaged, over-processed hair Seals split ends, strengthens $60 for 30ml $2.00
Cicagloss Lightened, sensitised blonde hair Hydrates, adds gloss, strengthens $60 for the 75ml refill $0.80

Per ml is only a rough guide, because the doses differ. The ingredients differ too: Elixir Ultime uses camellia and marula oils, Glaze Drops wild rose oil, Huile Gloss citric acid, glycine and peptide, and Cicagloss edelweiss extract and sunflower seed oil. Prices are ours, checked on 30 October 2026. RRP means the price Kérastase lists for Australia, and our online price is 25% below it.

Why choose Elixir Ultime?

Kérastase Elixir Ultime L'Huile Originale hair oil

It is Kérastase's signature oil, and it is the one to buy if you only want one bottle. You can use it before cleansing, before blow-drying or to finish. It also gives thermal protection when styling, and it helps strengthen hair and prevent breakage.

Comes as the 75ml bottle, a $66.75 refill, or a $41.25 30ml mini if you want to try it first.

Is Glaze Drops better for fine hair?

Kérastase Gloss Absolu Glaze Drops hair oil

Often, yes. Glaze Drops is lightweight, suits hair that heavier oils weigh down, and has a precision dropper that makes overdoing it harder. It gives a glassy finish and long-lasting frizz control. On fine hair, start with two drops and stay below the ears.

Frizz is often the bigger issue here. See our frizzy hair guide.

Which oil is best for damaged hair?

Kérastase Première Huile Gloss repairing hair oil

Première Huile Gloss is a concentrated leave-in for over-processed hair with split ends and persistent dullness. It smooths frizz without residue. It is the priciest per ml, so it makes most sense if you are already on the Première routine.

Which oil is best for blonde hair?

Kérastase Blond Absolu Cicagloss hair oil refill

Cicagloss hydrates and strengthens hair compromised by lightening, without a greasy finish. Please note that what we sell is the 75ml refill, which clicks into the Cicagloss refillable glass bottle. Our blonde hair guide covers the rest of the routine.

How do I use a Kérastase hair oil?

  1. Start small: 1 or 2 drops of Elixir Ultime or Cicagloss, a few drops of Glaze Drops, or 1 or 2 pipettes of Huile Gloss, depending on length and thickness.
  2. Warm it between your palms.
  3. Apply from the mid-lengths to the ends. Keep it off the scalp.
  4. Leave it in and style. Add a little more to dry ends if they need it.

On fine hair, try Elixir Ultime on damp hair before blow-drying rather than as a finisher, so it never looks oily at the roots.

Does hair oil protect from heat?

Only Elixir Ultime of these four lists thermal protection, and it gives no temperature. The directions for Huile Gloss say to use a heat protectant if you are adding heat, and our information for Glaze Drops and Cicagloss does not mention heat. If you use hot tools, use a rated product first. Our heat protectant guide lists the stated temperatures.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Kérastase hair oil?

Elixir Ultime L'Huile Originale ($88.50) is the best starting point because it suits all hair types. The other three are for more specific hair: frizz-prone, damaged or lightened.

Which Kérastase oil is best for fine hair?

Glaze Drops, because it is lightweight and easy to dose. Elixir Ultime also works if you apply it to damp hair before blow-drying.

Can I use a hair oil on wet hair?

Yes. Elixir Ultime and Cicagloss both work on wet or dry hair, Huile Gloss on damp or dry, and Glaze Drops on towel-dried or dry hair.

Is a hair oil or a serum better?

They do different jobs. Oils mostly work on the lengths and ends for shine and softness, and some serums treat the scalp or work overnight. Our Kérastase serum guide explains the options.

Which Kérastase oil makes a good gift?

The Elixir Ultime 30ml mini ($41.25) is an easy choice, because it suits all hair types. See our Kérastase Christmas gift ideas.
